Portsmouth Abbey School

DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT, Portsmouth Abbey School, Portsmouth, Rhode Island – Portsmouth Abbey School (, a premier coeducational, Catholic, Benedictine, boarding and day school, is seeking a Director of Development to embrace and articulate the mission of the School, represent the School’s values to external constituencies, and partner effectively with the Headmaster in raising the resources required to achieve the School’s goals.  This dynamic and charismatic leader will oversee all development operations and serve as the School’s most visible frontline fundraiser.  Founded in 1918 and owned by the Order of St. Benedict, Portsmouth Abbey is a college preparatory secondary school serving 360 students from more than 20 countries and is located on 500 acres of Rhode Island coastline.


Successful candidates will have proven success in cultivating, soliciting, and securing large philanthropic gifts and designing and overseeing development programs in an independent school or college setting.  Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree or higher and have 8+ years of increasingly responsible experience in designing and executing comprehensive development programs, including annual giving, planned giving, and capital campaigns.  Preference will be given to individuals of the Catholic faith who possess the required experience.  Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.  Campus housing is available.  Extensive domestic and international travel is required.
