In preparation for Pope Benedict’s visit to the United States next month, Beliefnet, the web’s largest mainstream spirituality and religion website, has nabbed David Gibson, to blog regularly on B16. Gibson, a former Vatican radio correspondent, experienced religion journalist and author of both ’The Coming Catholic Church’ and ’The Rule of Benedict’ (and full disclosure: a good friend) is uniquely positioned to comment intelligently on what the pope says and does, and doesn’t say and doesn’t do, while he’s in the States. He’s also an inveterate student of American culture, and so it’s no surprise that his first blogs cover not only the origins of Benedict’s papal seal, his pre-papal memoir ’Milestones,’ the Regensburg speech, but also NPR’s ’Cartalk’ and the (ahem) official ’Papal Skateboard Art Design Contest.’ In the midst of what promises to be a media extravaganza, stay tuned to someone who knows what he’s talking about. His blog is right here: "Benedictions" A little closer to home, stay tuned to America’s pages and to "In All Things," as well as to our CNS links, for our own on-the-spot reporting of the pope’s visit, beginning with his arrival in Washington.
