The National Catholic Review
America has a new online article by Jesuit scholastic Sean Dempsey, S.J, who was recently ordained a deacon and will be ordained a Catholic priest this coming June. Dempsey is a pop-culture aficionado extraordinaire, a vocation not often found among religious but crucial, in my opinion, for evangelizing the next generation of Catholics. Dempsey reviews and reflects upon The Hold Steady, an uber-hip band which draws its inspiration from some Catholic themes and from themes that are familiar to Catholics. Read it here! A band that does this better than the Hold Steady (and rocks better, I believe) is Marah. Check out their latest album "Angels of Destruction." The band even picked out its name in confirmation class.
