Mahony of Los Angeles said at the University of Notre Dame. • On Sept. 14 the U.N. General Assembly adopted its first resolution on the responsibility to protect, agreeing to hold further discussions on the duty of the international community to intervene to stop atrocities. • Pope Benedict XVI said that he is pleased that his encyclical Charity in Truth has prompted increased debate on the moral shortcomings of the world’s economies.
