Christmas is over but I just caught up with your article about how "The Night Before Christmas" came to be written. The article itself was very well written and the descriptions of the place and time actually transported me back in my imagination to a wintry night of long ago. As for the poem, it seems to have been a gift to Dr. Moore, who though he loved poetry, never distiquished himself in that regard, until he penned this jewel. His unselfish act of charity in leaving his nice, warm study, to brave an icy December night to insure that his neighbor wasn't left off his family's gift list is the perfect example of the commandment to love thy neighbor as thyself. I believe he was rewarded for his thoughtfulness, and of course, so were we. That we all could truly know the Spirit of Christmas in such a meaningful way.

An excellent article.  Each year, we here in Quincy, Massachusetts  (home of two Presidents)  at our Access Television station invite the community in to the studio to recite the Night Before Christmas and run it today, Christmas Day and then for the remainder of Chrismas Week; it has grown in popularity so that it is now an anticipated feature of December.  This article fills in 'the rest of the story" as Paul Harvey might say.  Thank you and Merry Christmas.

What an enchating commentary, but I cannot it imagine it all being more than legend for many reasons... and hasn't it been theorized (or even proven) that he was not the auther, but rather the "copier" or distributor???
