The Bishops and the Sex Abuse Crisis

As the first executive director of the Office for Child and Youth Protection of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, Kathleen McChesney helped implement the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, the bishops' guide for preventing clergy abuse that was first adopted in 2002. McChesney has written several reports for America on the sexual abuses crisis and the bishops' response to its aftereffects. Her latest article, "Is The Charter Still Relevant?" will appear in the June 8-15 issue.
