In All Things [1]
Peter Schineller [2]

In “Of Many Things” back on April 20, 2009, I wrote about Fran Hezel, S.J., [3] and his Micronesian Seminar. Now Fran tells the story his way in a remarkable account of how he was missioned to Micronesia and how he views his mission today.

His story intersects with shifts the shifts in missiology in both the pre- and post-Vatican II Church. He also presents the history of the Jesuit involvement in those Pacific Islands. A remarkable story and extremely readable! The printed version, entitled “A Life at the Edge of the World,” by Francis X. Hezel, S.J, is found in STUDIES IN THE SPIRITUALITY OF JESUITS, 41/4, Winter 2009. But it is also online here. [4]

Fran’s story begins on page 1, after a five page essay “the first word”  by the editor, Richard Blake, S.J., also known to America readers for his movie reviews. Enjoy!

Peter Schineller, S.J.
