The May 5, 2008 issue of America featured five articles addressing the rise of the so-called new atheism, signaled by the popularity of such authors as Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens and Sam Harris.

In "An Evangelical Moment?" [2] Richard J. Mouw argued that if Christians are to combat the new atheism, they must first look to themselves.

Stephen J. Pope, in "Called to Love," [3] makes the case that Christian witness is the best response to atheist polemics.

In "Catholicism and the New Atheism" [4] Richard J. Gaillardetz asks if there is anything in atheist critiques of the church that might be accurate and worth correcting.

Finally, Michael Buckley writes in "The Madmen and the Crowd" [5] that for the new atheists, God is not worth a decent argument.
