Robert C. Collins, S.J., came to America Press as an associate editor in January 1992. He became managing editor of the magazine in July of that year and continued in that position until the growth of the America Media staff led to reorganizations in August 2013, when he became an executive editor, and in 2017, when he became production editor. During these years at America, his main pastoral ministry has been as director of adult Christian initiation at the Church of St. Paul the Apostle at Lincoln Center in Manhattan.

Father Collins entered the novitiate of what was then the New York Province of the Society of Jesus in 1954 and after college studies taught Latin and English at St. Francis Xavier High School in New York from 1961 to 1964. He then studied theology at Woodstock College in Maryland, was ordained a priest in 1967 and after further theological studies at Union Theological Seminary in New York City and in Germany, served as parochial vicar in several Jesuit parishes in the New York City area until joining the America staff.
