As a flourishing media ministry, we look to the next generation for renewed energy and new perspectives. If you become an America Associate, you are supporting a number of initiatives to enhance our readership and content and reach a younger audience and the next generation. Here are a few of those initiatives:

  • With our acquisition ofThe Jesuit Post, we bring our mission to a broader audience of 20- and 30-somethings by providing a modern voice with a focus on spiritual renewal and social analysis.
  • We are excited to join with the Ignatian Solidarity Network again to launch Voices From the Margins, a new film contest showcasing the best social justice short videos by college undergraduates. The winner is showcased each November at the Ignatian Family Teach-In in Washington, D.C.

With these initiatives and others, we are proud to actively engage the next generation of Catholic leaders to promote a continued civil discourse that will enrich the church.

Please become an America Associate by donating today to support the next generation of Catholic leaders. With your participation in the Associates program you will continue to help develop initiatives for young people that will enhance our content and reach. Thank you for your commitment to the America community and its legacy.

I hope America can find a means of reaching & cultivating the contribution of some young conservative Catholic voices among the next generation of these leaders (yes, they do exist).

I was approached yesterday by an "e-church" organization with an offer to download a book about attracting millennials to my parish. One of the first things I noticed in the book was mention of an APP for Smart Phones so that millennials can contribute to the church "on the fly"..so to speak.... I had to laugh at this when I considered the parishes in my diocese. Firstly, when I attend Mass at various parishes, I see very few millennials on their own. I see some young people, but they come with their parents. Secondly, very few parishes in my diocese offer an electronic means of donating to the parish on their web sites. Thirdly, there are still some parishes in the diocese that do not provide their bulletins on line. I guess the assumption is that if someone wants a bulletin or information from a bulletin, they will come to Mass and get a hard copy. America Media has an email subscription list to contact us about this organization. I have not yet discovered a parish that has an email subscription list. One parish near me if I sign up they will email a link every week to their parish bulletin but I cannot go online and view it until I receive a link from them. This is unnecessarily clunky and Catholic parishes routinely fail at their hospitality ministries.

Hey, yes; thanks for the note on flocknotes. I will say that there were two of us in our adult faith formation classes at my parish that used an APP on both I phone and Android. We tried to show others in the class and some in our class had neither cell phones or personal computers at home. We were using the Laudate APP and my primary use for it was an easy way to pull up Catechism paragraphs by numbers without having to carry an actual book to class. We did have two young people in class who through discussion revealed that they did use computer sources for faith study and chatting or blogging. We are missing the boat big time if we do not use this new media for new evangelization. The diocese did have a one day seminar a couple of years ago for catechists on the new media and how to use it in parishes, but, frankly, I have not seen evidence that any learning from that day got integrated into parishes.

Catholic voters were a crucial part of Donald J. Trump’s re-election as president. But did misogyny and a resistance to women in power cause Catholic voters to disregard the common good?
