Over the next three weeks, we’ll look at the three traditional spiritual practices for Lent: prayer, fasting and almsgiving. First, prayer. Now, it might seem strange to recommend prayer at the beginning of your daily prayer. That is, you’re about to pray the Daily Examen. And I don’t want to recommend simply praying more, which of course is not a bad idea, in itself. Instead, I might recommend praying in a different way than you usually do. Look at it this way: It’s helpful to compare your relationship to God to a relationship to a close friend. If you only relate to that friend in one way, it might cause your relationship to stagnate. If all you ever did with your friend was go out for a movie every month and just had quick talks, and never spent one on one time, talking about deeper things, you might find that things grow cold. The same with God. It’s always good to try new ways of prayer. If you only do adoration, try centering prayer. If you only do centering prayer, try Ignatian contemplation. It might change your relationship with God, which is not a bad thing at all for Lent.

Keeping President Biden on the ballot is like telling voters: “Trust us. Don’t believe your eyes and ears.”
Many watching last night’s debate wondered if this was the end for Joe Biden. But I could not help but wonder if this was the end of presidential debates.
