Last night, John Oliver at the Daily Show did interviews with participants at both a McCain rally and an Obama rally about the other candidate.  It’s really quite striking -- the participants use very similar common language, present some of the same basic fears (only Obama gets to be a Muslim terrorist who will make the Koran the law of the land), even the same rhetorical structures.

I highly recommend it.  It’s a really useful challenge to pretty much all of us. It turns out those crazy (fill in the blank) from (fill in the blank) supporting (fill in the blank) are really just like us.

Priceless... My favorite lines by John Oliver: To the McCain supporter (in response to the "charge" that Obama is a Muslim): other than the fact that he isn't a muslim, what makes him a muslim. To the Obama supporter (in response to the charge that McCain "doesn't use twitter": ummm, twitter, so that's important for you to see in a president.

‘A Man Escaped’ is a story of a man seeking temporal salvation, but Robert Bresson’s film takes on deeper meaning, becoming a parable of the Spirit.

The thought of losing Pope Francis one day is a hard one for me to grapple with; I know my reasons why. What surprised me was how many of my non-Catholic friends, even those whose feelings toward the church are decisively negative, also expressed their care and concern.
