Pope Thinks of Changing "Sign of Peace"

AP reports that, according to Cardinal Francis Arinze, prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship, Pope Benedict XVI is considering moving the "sign of Peace" from immediately before Communion to earlier in the Mass.  The brief story is here.  ’Arinze told the Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore Romano in an interview published Friday that the pope has asked bishops to express their opinions and will then decide,’ said AP.

The sign of peace needs to be early. When Jesus appeared to his disciples, the first thing that he said was 'Peace be with you!' When we gather, we should be offered peace as brothers and sisters, the sign of peace and share the peace with each other. Peace!

We changed the sign of peace a long time ago. Our parish does the sign of peace at the beginning of Mass during the Penitential Rite, as we make our peace with our God and fellowman before we bring our gift to the altar. It makes more sense this way. Fr. Hillis, ofm

The Proper place of the sign of Peace is BEFORE the Anaphora/Canon. In the BYZANTINE rite is done at ths place with the beautiful form: 'Let us love one to the others, that together we may proclaim...the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, Trinity one in essence and undivided.' In the West, in the MOZARABIC Rite (Spain) the sign of the Peace is in that place, too. Let go back to Tradition!
