Bishop Richard Williamson, the Society of St. Pius X bishop and famous for his comments on the Holocaust, has said, astonishingly, that the discussions between the Society of St. Pius X and the Vatican are a "dialogue of the deaf."  My rough translation (the segment starts around 12:05 on the video) from his French: "I think that will end up as a dialogue of the deaf. The two positions are absolutely irreconcilable. For example, 2+2=4 and 2+2=5 are irreconcilable. So, either those who say 2+2=4 renounce the truth and agree that 2+2=5—that is, the [SSPX] abandons the truth, which God forbids us to do—or, well, those who say 2+2=5 convert and then return to the truth. Or, well, the two come halfway and say that 2+2=4-1/2. That’s false. Or, either the [SSPX] becomes a traitor, or Rome converts, or it’s a dialogue of the deaf.” H/T to Cathy Grossman at USA Today and Reuters Faith World.   Et voilà le video, en français, ci-dessus.  The idea of Rome "converting" is particularly rich.  And if your French is good, you can also hear what the bishop has to say about "the Jews" and Israel.

Yes, the conversion talk is baffling. Rome defects from the Faith because of their ''2+2=5'' teachings, but +Williamson remains a Catholic. What's the point?

They throw the leadership of American Women Religious under the bus after the sisters taught everyone that 2+2=4 for more than a century. Then they get on the same bus to talk nice to SSPX crowd who won't give up any their seats to the old guard reformers of the reform. The next stop is into the Tiber and please, all leave by the back door even though nobody is getting on at the front door.

Last Sunday when B16 went to the roman sinagogue, the SSPX's priest leader here in Italy celebrated a Mass "in reparation to the pope's sacrilegious act".
Bishop Williamson is right "The two positions are absolutely irreconcilable"
I don't understand the Vatican.

To see the devil, Williamson has to look no further than the mirror.
Why is B16 endeavoring to bring this turkey and his turkettes back to the church?  Waste of bloody time.
He represents the Church of "No."

So...the Vatican is working very hard to bring disillusioned conservative Anglicans and SSPX heretics back into the fold while also working to alienate those who have faithfully followed the Lord and the Church's teachings?

Is B16 too old for the job? He's certainly showing some poor judgment. How much more will he try to put the Vatican II toothpaste back into the tube?

Wow, just when I thought I needed to brush up on my Latin and the Prayers at the foot of the altar, I read the comments above. THANK YOU -everyone - for voicing my own concerns and worries about the direction the Vatican seems to be going, not only with the SPPX and welcoming conservative Anglicans, the apostolic visitation of women's religious communities, but also the new translation of the Roman Missal and the latest GIRM. Add to that list as well the distraction of trying to figure out if Vatican II is continous or discontinous with the tradition and it becomes clear that someone(s)are in a retrenchment mentality. There's lots of room for diversity in the church, so SPPX and the conservative Anglicans are more than welcomed, BUT,they too need to respect and honor the diversity that makes them welcome. Tom K.
