Two weeks ago I traveled to Anaheim, California with three members of our staff for the annual Los Angeles Religious Education Congress. Many friends of the magazine were there, including Richard Gaillardetz, from the University of Toledo, who gave a talk, provocatively titled, "Do We Need a Vatican III?" Professor Gaillardetz has written about Vatican II for America in the past, and kindly agreed to sit down for an interview.

Listen to our conversation.

John W. Donohue, S.J., was a beloved member of America's staff who passed away earlier this year. For Holy Week, we have chosen one of his many articles for the magazine for our Easter archive reflection.

Read Father Donohue's Easter reflection from 2005.

Finally, in what is becoming something of a tradition here at America, Karen Sue Smith offers a multimedia reflection for Easter. Last year, she reported from the Franciscan Renewal Center in Scottsdale, Arizona. This year, we are pleased to present this meditation on the paintings of James Tissot, which chronicle the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. (Sorry for the delay--the video took some time to process.)

A blessed Holy Week and Easter to all of our readers!

“Laudato Si’” and its implementation seem to have stalled in the church. We need to revivify our efforts—and to recognize the Christological perspectives of our care for creation and our common home.
