This means that a hung Parliament might be avoided. Meanwhile, the high turnout has caught election officials off guard. People have been turned away from ballot boxes all over the U.K. Sheffield, in the north of England, resembles Broward County, circa 2000. The government has already promised an investigation. David Dimbleby, the BBC’s Walter Cronkite, in his final stint as host of a national election, is barely disguising his frustration. The refrain among the British? ‘It’s like we’re America!’
