I'm a big fan of Richard Rohr, OFM (especially his book Everything Belongs), a big fan of what has come to be known as "male spirituality" (yes, I know it's a loaded term but that area of spirituality raises important questions for a sex that more than occasionally seems to think that going to church is womens' work) and a big fan of Loyola Press.  To that end, Loyola has just started a new blog on male spirituality, using a new book by Rohr as a jumping-off point.  Here's how they describe it:

This blog began as an e-mail conversation between a couple of editors—Joe Durepos and Tom McGrath—while they worked on Richard Rohr’s new book, On the Threshold of Transformation: Daily Meditations for Men. Inspired by Richard’s words, they had a year-long correspondence that offered each other support as well as challenge.

With completion of Richard’s new book, which will publish in September 2010, they decided to keep the conversation going and invite others to join them.  The blog will continue to draw its inspiration from the wisdom and work on male spirituality of Richard Rohr. Richard is not expected to comment but you never know. As Tom and Joe both have full-time jobs and families, they have committed to post once-a-week, each of them alternating weeks. Comments are welcome and encouraged.

Check it out here, men and women alike.

Comments are automatically closed two weeks after an article's initial publication. See our comments policy for more.

Readers here might be interested in Journal of Men, Masculinities and Spirituality, for a slightly broader view of male spirituality than that offered by Rohr. Free online at:

I've been following Richard Rohr for probably 25 or 30 years now, starting I think with his books and tapes on the Enneagram.  In the last 5 years or so it seems to me that his faith and teaching has jumped (evolved?) to a whole new level.  Less rational, more wisdom; less critical, more loving and accepting.

He is one of the reasons I still call and know myself as "Catholic".
