"Maybe just-born babies cry because tiny eyes hurt in the light.
Previewers say, in the end, we walk a tunnel toward the light.

Trees arch over our city street, dark and hooded.
We cannot see sidewalk cracks. Beware of headlights.

No God stops by in Bergman films, even for a visit.
Stark eyes appear and landscapes, shades of barren light.

I paint rooms in earthtones: caramel, mahogany, coffee.
You zip open blinds, complain, “We need more light!”

You are Yang, I am Ying; or are we a combo, Yingly&Yangly?
A routine, a duo, a slapstick couple tap dancing in cold moonlight.

In a cornstalk maze, we can lose ourselves without a view.
Like old faces puzzling reflections in nursing home window light.

Spaghetti strings overflow gutters, weave shrubs and tree trunks.
So wild and gaudy, who put up those hyperactive holiday lights?

Ladies in the church draped lost rosaries on St. Anthony’s fingers.
Without paying a penny, a friend and I set on fire every vigil light.

Let’s not do the pale of suffering. And no blazing pyres, please.
Lighten up, little one, you will find your way in the given light.

I love the imagery, the reality of light! I love to walk in the light of the sun, to get wrapped in its transparency, soaring in spirit like an eagle's feather lost in flight!  I love to walk on a cloudy day knowing that beyond the mist light shines! I love to climb "ladders" to the sun, sometimes called "rays" that connect land and sky, as at sunrise, and sunset!

I love that for God, "light and darkness are the same" evident in the lives of some Saints like Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who enduringly prospered  for fifty years in the darkness of God's Light! We see manifested naturally too, that for God "light and darkness are the same" in that animate and inanimate life flourishes contentedly according to environmental placement! With God there is no such thing as "waste" - not even darkness!

Yes, I love that from the primordial conglomorate potpourri of creative intent, the Lord of Light called forth from an uncreated dark  pool of nothingness, multiple results, which theologians call "creation" an event that happend when God said, "Let there be Light" and light materalized!

Light is so bouyant - it makes me float! Thank you, Anne M. Bruner, for your poem, "In The Light." You have said it all, you have said it well! I love it!
