OMAHA, Neb. (CNS) -- Jesuit Father Daniel Hendrickson, an associate provost of academic initiatives at Marquette University in Milwaukee and a member of Creighton University's board of trustees, will be the 25th president of Creighton in Omaha.

The 44-year-old priest, a Nebraska native, will take the post July 1.

He succeeds Jesuit Father Timothy Lannon, 63, who accepted the position three years ago but is leaving for health reasons.

Father Hendrickson will take the university far, said Father Lannon. "He's smart. He's bright. He's priestly."

Father Hendrickson obtained a bachelor's degree in psychology and theology at Marquette before entering the Society of Jesus in 1994. He was ordained in 2006 and has a master's degree in philosophical resources from Fordham University in New York, a master of divinity from the Jesuit School of Theology at Santa Clara University in California and a master of arts and a doctor of philosophy degree from Columbia University in New York.

He serves on boards for two other Jesuit schools: Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, and Xavier University in Cincinnati. He has taught at Creighton, Jordan University College in Morogoro, Tanzania, and Fordham. He has also taught college programs in the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Greece, Guatemala and India.

Father Hendrickson has two siblings involved with higher education: His identical twin, Jesuit Father D. Scott Hendrickson, is an assistant professor of modern languages at Loyola University Chicago, and his older brother, Ryan Hendrickson, is a political science professor at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois.

At its best, the United States defines itself not primarily by its borders, but by its values and principles.
Sam Sawyer, S.J.March 05, 2025
If end-of-life care matters, surely it can be strengthened by beginning-of-life wisdom. On this first day of Lent and year-round, I want to model for my children clear-eyed acceptance of what we cannot control and agency in what we can.
His doctors have concluded, however, that “given the complexity of the clinical picture, the prognosis remains guarded,” meaning they do not consider him out of danger yet.
