Vigneron of Detroit announced the convocation of an archdiocesan synod in the fall of 2016 to refocus on evangelization and “to encounter Christ anew” as a missionary church. • Edith Avila Olea, 22, a parish outreach worker for Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Joliet, Ill., was scheduled to be honored on June 10 at the U.S. bishops’ spring general assembly in St. Louis with the 2015 Cardinal Bernardin New Leadership Award. • Right-to-die legislation was approved by the California state Senate on June 4 and will now head to the state house.
