Elevating women to positions of meaningful leadership in the church

Our guest this week is Kerry Alys Robinson, global ambassador of Leadership Roundtable and author of Imagining Abundance: Fundraising, Philanthropy and A Spiritual Call to Service. She recently wrote an article, “Why Catholics are called to radical hospitality in these political times” for America.

Robinson told America about her work around the world with Leadership Roundtable, a network of ordained, religious and lay leaders who connect churches with skilled managers to assist with finances, communications and human resources. She was a representative to the bishops’ Convocation of Catholic Leaders this summer, where she spoke on a panel about women in the church.

“[At the Convocation, I spoke] about the importance of elevating women to positions of meaningful leadership in the church across every level, even in the Roman Curia, and [insisted] that women are at the tables of decision making as a matter of managerial urgency for the church.”

In describing her approach to conversations about women in the church, Robinson explained that her perspective is rooted in “a deep love and belief in the church’s potential.” This forward-looking approach includes a “desire to see [the church] benefit from the best that we have to offer... that includes, most certainly, women,” Robinson said.
