Pope Francis showed his solidarity with refugees with his first papal journey outside of Rome. He traveled to Lampedusa, Italy’s southernmost island, where tens of thousands of refugees have arrived over the years. 

Throughout his pontificate, Francis has highlighted the plight of refugees. But he is not the first to do so. 

This year, as we observe World Refugee Day, America is testing our reader’s knowledge of papal refugee statements. Let’s see how you do! And let us follow our popes’ lead and advocate for the dignity of all migrants and refugees.
