Pope Francis said that Christian faith must disturb the powers that be.

On “Preach” this week, Father John Unni reflects on his homily from three years ago. “I like what that guy is saying, but I find it even more challenging,” he says. “I’m wrestling with these readings in a different way, a deeper way.”

U.S. bishops met for a plenary assembly to discuss various topics including mental health, poverty and youth ministry, as well as hearing proposals from the National Review Board on how to combat sex abuse in the church.

For 50 years, the Catholic Campaign for Human Development has served as one of the church’s primary investments in fighting poverty. The U.S. bishops must reaffirm their support for this initiative.

The material, cultural and spiritual poverties that exist in the world are a “scandal” that Christians are called to address by putting their God-given capacity for charity and love into action, Pope Francis said.
