It is that time of year when a portion of Mass is dedicated to the Annual Appeal. The collection used to be called the Cardinal’s Appeal, but this is the Archdiocese of Washington, and we’ve been having some problems with our cardinals lately.

On March 23, Pope Francis appointed the Spanish-born Capuchin friar, Bishop Celestino Aos Braco as apostolic administrator of the archdiocese of Santiago, Chile.

The bishop was charged April 9 with rape, illegal confinement and intimidation.

A copy of the letter was released late April 4 by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.
