During a Mass for peace, Archbishop John C. Wester of Santa Fe decried the killings of four Muslim men in New Mexico since last November.

The oldest member of the College of Cardinals, Cardinal Jozef Tomko, died in Rome at the age of 98.

Bishop Álvarez, facing the threat of incarceration, maintains a message of love and hope.

“We are at a different place than we were a week ago in the church’s walk with Indigenous Peoples, a better place.”

“The ideal bishop does not exist,” Sister Reungoat said. But he has to be a shepherd who is “close to the people entrusted to him, he has to know how to involve priests, laity and religious, and people of different generations.”

It is my hope that the bishops’ campaign inspires not just an intellectual conversion but a religious conversion, propelling American Catholics to fight for a more just economy and a more Christian society.
