The coronavirus has made clear how much we depend on the contributions of essential workers, many of them immigrants, writes Bishop Mario E. Dorsonville, chairman of the U.S. Bishops’ Committee on Migration.
Conspiracy theories regarding coronavirus being espoused by prominent clergymen like Cardinal Gerhard Muller and Archbishop Carlo Vigano have been rejected not only by fellow bishops but by lay Catholics as well.
As they move forward in this ministry, the priests will quarantine themselves, either alone or with other priests on the team, and will pull back from parish ministry. In some cases, they will temporarily change residences.
The bishops said they find these actions unacceptable and called on Catholics, fellow Christians and all people of goodwill to help them combat such acts of racism and xenophobia.
