The Vatican’s report on Theodore McCarrick is an indictment of institutional knowledge and decision-making in the Catholic Church.

An internal memo corrects “some confusion in the media regarding the moral permissibility of using the vaccines.” But at least two bishops have cast doubt on the moral permissibility of the vaccines.

The Most Rev. Daniel Flores, Bishop of Brownsville, Tex., since December 2009, was elected head of the Committee on Doctrine of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops on Nov. 16.

The bishops have failed to find a public way to communicate to American Catholics that they are taking this report seriously and are ready to make changes in response to it.

The president of the U.S. bishops' conference said that the election of Joe Biden, who speaks regularly about his Catholic faith, “presents certain opportunities but also certain challenges.”

Forgiveness must not mean perpetuating secrecy and avoiding accountability. It means owning up to the truth.
