In his annual address to diplomats at the Vatican, Pope Francis condemned isolationism and called on nations to act out of “concern for the whole human family and its needs.”
"I was looking forward to this roundtable discussion, but there was no discussion unfortunately," Sister Pimentel told The Valley Catholic, newspaper of the Brownsville Diocese.
“We witness daily how, working together, people of all faiths can focus on helping the person in front of us,” Sister Pimentel, the executive director of Catholic Charities in the Rio Grande Valley, wrote in an op-ed addressed to the president yesterday in The Washington Post.
Though they certainly knew what it was like to find their lives in danger, the Holy Family would find many of the trials undocumented migrants and refugees are asked to endure today incomprehensible.
