During an online discussion on faith and racism sponsored by the American Jewish Committee, Archbishop Wilton Gregory of Washington, D.C., said "if we do not know each other...we make it possible for hatred to grow."

Peter and Paul, Pope Francis noted, provide valuable role models to encourage us toward unity and prophecy.

Following the apostolic visitation of a northern Italian ecumenical monastery, the Vatican has ordered the founder and former prior, Enzo Bianchi, to leave it so as to "clarify" the leadership of the community.

“One thing is certain,” Pope Francis writes. “Unity is not chiefly the result of our activity, but a gift of the Holy Spirit. Yet, unity will not come about as a miracle at the very end. Rather, unity comes about in journeying.”

As Christians have become more familiar and neighborly with people of other religious traditions, we have extended that familiarity to appreciation, and sometimes appreciation becomes appropriation. 

Francis called on all Christians “to work together to show to the migrants the love of God revealed in Jesus Christ.”
