In an interview with America, Sister Normal Pimental talks about her involvement with Pope Francis' "Share the Journey" campaign.

"This is a cruel and inhumane decision," said Jeanne Atkinson, CLINIC's executive director. "There is absolutely no need to send people who are living peacefully, raising their children and contributing to the American economy and society back to a country where their lives could immediately be put at risk."

The Caritas campaign is calling for a week of prayer and action for the world’s 66 million forcibly displaced people, running from Oct. 7 through 13.

The earthquake feels like yet another crisis tearing at our transnational families. The earthquake was a natural disaster, but the many ways American society fails to value the lives of foreigners, of immigrants, of its own citizens, because of their skin color or their Latino heritage is a disaster of our own making.

Pope Francis said he is worried that even Catholics are arguing against accepting more migrants and refugees into their communities, and they often cite an ill-defined "'moral obligation' to preserve the original cultural and religious identity" of their nations.

The court is scheduled to hear cases relating to immigration, religious freedom, federalism, voting, employee rights and federal court jurisdiction over foreign governments and corporations.
