Thousands of Catholics in one of the world’s poorest nations are objecting after the church asked the government to collect a 10 percent tithe from worshippers on its behalf.

"Unfortunately, in many countries where people do not have normal access to safe drinking water," what is not lacking "is the supply of weapons and ammunition, which continue to deteriorate the situation," the pope said in a message published Nov. 8.

Many ballot measures supported by Catholic leaders saw success in the Midterms.

After the midterms, there are a variety of other issues on which compromise is still achievable and where “good politics” can still be practiced.
