Republican presidential candidate Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida traded barbs with a national pro-life group July 31 over comments he made on enacting abortion policy at the federal level.

In a March 27 statement to OSV News, Archbishop Cordileone, who previously barred Pelosi from receiving the Eucharist in his archdiocese, said, “We know from science that life begins at conception.”

The decision “to provide an unanswered activist’s case that abortion is a tool of justice for the marginalized,” Bishop Kevin Rhoades wrote, “is a grave mistake in judgment that creates scandal.”

Under the bill, an abortion would be considered homicide, subject to sentences of 30 years in prison or the death penalty.
