WOW! Heartfelt thanks for your generosity this #GivingTuesday. We had a record-breaking year by raising more than $105,000 for our media ministry from more than 1,500 donors. On my last day as America’s editor in chief, I am humbled by this extraordinary show of support that will enable us to leverage the momentum of the last, transformative 10 years into our next exciting phase of growth.

Tomorrow, the America Media Board of Directors and staff will celebrate a Mass as Father Sam Sawyer, SJ, begins his tenure as the 15th editor in chief, and Traug Keller assumes the role as president of the organization. Father Sawyer told me that he will include a list of all of our donors - including those who gave on #GivingTuesday - on the altar so that together they can pray in thanksgiving for the generosity of our entire community.

Thank you for being an essential part of our media ministry.

Thank you for being an essential part of our media ministry. Thank you for valuing honest conversation about the toughest questions. Thank you for recognizing the importance of civil and respectful dialogue across the political and ideological spectrum. Thank you for creating opportunities for us all to deepen our faith and follow Christ’s example more fully. And most of all, thank you for your encouragement and prayers over the last ten years. I couldn’t have done it without you, nor would I want to.

We are grateful to be together in this ministry. Let the transformation continue!

Sincerely Yours in Christ,
Rev. Matthew Malone S.J.
President & Editor in Chief

If we have grown up Catholic, or even if our conversion or reversion was a few years ago, it is very easy to start taking salvation for granted.

On election day, voters in 10 states will vote on ballot initiatives related to abortion. If the past two years are any indication, I fear the pro-life movement can expect yet another round of bruising electoral defeats.
