The second and third results have arrived. They are also wins for Labour, but there has been a sizable ‘swing’ in the vote to the Conservatives. ‘Swing’ is the measure of the percentage change of vote from one election to another. The swing in these first results is about 8% from Labour to the Conservatives. If this holds nationally and through the night, then the exit poll was wrong and the Conservatives will have a majority and will form the next government. All of the hype and excitement surrounding the Liberal Democrats and their electrifying young leader, Nick Clegg, does not seem to have translated into actual votes.
