The 35th General Congregation is the first where the world has been able to follow along, nearly in real time--thanks to the Internet--the workings of the Congregation. Creighton’s website and Don Doll’s photos have helped many feel a sense of closeness to the proceedings. (Pictured above, for example, is Brad Schaeffer, S.J., rector of the Weston Jesuit School of Theology, embracing the new Father General.) Now, in another innovation, the GC has announced that it is beginning a "virtual prayer room," for Jesuits, colleagues and friends who want to pray along with the Congregation in Rome, and also to submit their own prayers for the Congregation. Here is their English release (edited slightly), with a typically polyglot opening: "Soyez là! Be there! ¡Contamos con vosotros! Unitevi a noi! During the General Congregation, and especially during the second part, which began on January 21, and is dealing with the future and the commitments of the Society of Jesus in the world, all Jesuits, with their collaborators, benefactors and friends, can join with the delegates through prayer. Be there, in the Virtual Prayer Room of the General Congregation There are two ways : 1.) Each day, you can find on the webpage the prayers that are being used by the members of the Congregation during their meetings. These prayers can be used for personal or community prayer. " Read prayers " 2.) You can also send your own prayers for the Congregation or for the Society (in the language of your choice) to the following address: prayerroom-GC35@sjcuria.org The communication team will post a number of them on their site. Thank you for your participation to the Congregation through prayer." James Martin, S.J.
