Austen Ivereigh’s terrific piece below on the pope’s upcoming trip to Lourdes reminds us of the need to accept the presence of the supernatural as part of faith.  There are many resources on the web about Lourdes for those who are interested in learning more, including the official Lourdes website here, which includes the marvelous Lourdes webcams, which give you, rather amazingly, a real-time look at some of the sites in the Grotto of Massabieille, where the apparitions to St. Bernadette occurred in 1858, and the "Domaine," that is the area immediately surrounding the Grotto.

What great resources to learn more about Lourdes! Thanks very much, Father. My favorite chapter in your book on the Saints is the one on Bernadette...it made what happened in Lourdes seem timeless, which it certainly is. I hope you will consider posting it on the blog for the spiritual benefit of your readers.

I have read that the most visited Marian shrine in the Catholic world is the Basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico. Unlike other Marian shrines in the world, it is traditionally not a place where someone goes to ask for a miracle. The presence of Mary is considered enough of a miracle. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YmL146DCqY&feature=related
