Take a Religion Quiz

If you enjoy taking a quiz now and then and would like to see how you compare with other Americans on your knowledge of just six “religion and American life” questions, take the self-test offered on the New York Time’s Web site.

The test is an interactive feature that accompanies an article reporting the less than stellar scores of more than three thousand Americans who took a longer, 32-question test as part of a telephone survey sponsored by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life. I expect all readers of America to score 100 percent on the abbreviated Times quiz.

I got all of the answers right.  Maybe it helped that I used to be an atheist  :)

I got them all right too, Crystal.  I think that my many years of wandering around helped me.  (In fact, I'm still wandering around.)

I got 6 out 6 in the religion quiz.  It probably helps that I'm an Episcopalian (Catholic until I was 40) & have an ongoing passionate interest in Christianity plus learning about other religions, especially Islam.  Having at least a bare nodding acquaintance with Islam seems to need to be a no-brainer these days.  Especially when you notice mosques & other churches with funny-looking foreign names-to some of us-on them.

I also got 6/6 but I wouldn't take the results too seriously-the questions seemed to me to be a random scattering of technical knowledge rather than things that really everyone should know to at least understand where people with religious beliefs are coming from (for example, it's probably important that I know that Ramadan is a holy time for my Muslim friends and aquaintances, but that Job is a particular example of biblical suffering isn't that critical to understanding how I think and act as a Christian)
