Good news is emerging from Milwaukee. As reported by the the Journal Sentinel:

A Catholic, work-study high school aligned with a nationwide network of schools will open in the fall of 2015 in a south side Milwaukee suburb, the Midwest Jesuits of the Wisconsin and Chicago-Detroit Provinces and the Cristo Rey network announced Wednesday.

The new Cristo Rey Jesuit High School will be located at 1215 S. 45th St., West Milwaukee, the current St. Florian's building, and will likely attract a Hispanic student population.

Many readers might not be familiar with the inspiring success of the Cristo Rey model of schools. Frequently run by the Jesuits, the Cristo Rey Network, according to the official website, "is comprised of 26 quality, Catholic, college preparatory high schools for underrepresented urban youth. Through rigorous academics, coupled with real world experience, Cristo Rey students graduate high school prepared for success in college and in life."

Cristo Rey schools, notes its website, "employ an innovative Corporate Work Study Program that provides students with real world work experiences. Every student works five full days a month to fund the majority of his or her education, gain job experience, grow in self-confidence, and realize the relevance of his or her education. Students work at law firms, banks, hospitals, universities, and other professional Corporate Partners."

One of the newest Cristo Rey schools is Cristo Rey Atlanta Jesuit High School. It will open in the Fall of 2014.
