About Us:

Outreach, a ministry of America Media and the Society of Jesus, strives to build community for LGBTQ Catholics and those who minister to them. By publishing original content and hosting in-person and virtual events, we seek to make the Catholic Church more welcoming for LGBTQ Catholics, their families and friends and those who minister to them.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a passionate, self-motivated and collaborative Communications and Advancement Associate to join our team. This role will be instrumental in advancing our mission by implementing key aspects of our communications and events strategies, engaging with key stakeholders and working closely with our executive director and advancement team on a range of publications and events. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to our mission, excellent communication skills and the ability and willingness to be a team player.

Outreach is a nimble organization and the ideal candidate will approach the position with a can-do attitude, resourcefulness, creativity and a keen eye toward identifying opportunities and executing tasks. This person should be a self-starter who recognizes challenges without prompting and comes to the table with ideas and solutions.

Responsibilities:

Communications:

  • Manage external communications with key stakeholders, including readers, donors and the broader LGBTQ Catholic community
  • Manage content for our website, social media platforms, newsletters and other communication channels, including editing and posting to WordPress
  • Write, edit and distribute articles, press releases and other promotional materials as needed
  • Field media requests and cultivate earned media opportunities
  • Collaborate with the executive director to plan and execute development events, including the national conferences, regional gatherings and virtual workshops
  • Respond to external inquiries about Outreach resources

Advancement:

  • Coordinate and support fundraising campaigns, including annual appeals and “Giving days” 
  • Play a key role in planning and logistics for special events, including the national conferences
  • Assist in finding grant opportunities and in writing and submitting grant proposals
  • Collaborate with America Media’s advancement team to research and identify major donor prospects and develop and implement engagement and solicitation strategies
  • Support the executive director in cultivating relationships with donors, sponsors and other stakeholders to support the organization’s growth

Administrative Support:

  • Provide general administrative support to the executive director as needed
  • Assist in the planning and execution of external meetings, including preparing materials
  • Maintain organized records of communications and development activities

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, particularly in communications, marketing, nonprofit management, theology or a related field
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and effectively
  • Proven proficiency in social media management, website content management systems, and email marketing platforms
  • Understanding of and commitment to the Catholic faith and the mission of fostering inclusivity for LGBTQ individuals within the church
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, creative, self-starter and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a small team
  • Experience working remotely a plus 

This is a fully remote position, with occasional travel required for events and meetings.
