The Catholic bishops of Minnesota have begun plans to implement a reopening schedule for public worship in parishes throughout the state.

In a homily Father VanDenBroeke gave on Jan. 5, the feast of the Epiphany and, in Minnesota, Immigration Sunday, he acknowledged the complexity of immigration as a political issue and that the Bible challenges Catholics to "welcome strangers."

Ramsey County Attorney John Choi and his staff have been deeply involved in the efforts of the archdiocese to improve its policies, procedures and practices around protecting children from sexual abuse during the past four years.

A U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge Sept. 25 approved the reorganization plan of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, including a $210 million settlement for victim-survivor remuneration.

Archbishop John C. Nienstedt has "stepped aside from his responsibilities" at the Napa Institute, the Irvine, California-based organization announced Aug. 15.

Hmong-American Catholics came in large numbers to the Cathedral of St. Paul May 26 dressed in native attire to celebrate the first U.S.-born Hmong-American to be ordained a priest.

The settlement is the largest ever reached in a bankruptcy case related to clergy sex abuse.

Ministering in rural areas should be rooted in building relationships that understand people's connection to their land.

The Diocese of Crookston issued the statement in response to a lawsuit filed that day against the bishop and the diocese.

"It's really a privilege to be able to offer up whatever we're going through," a cathedral parishioner said.
